Rafael Payare stands out for his exceptional musicality, a natural mastery, a great power on the podium and a charismatic presence. He is considered one of the brightest promises of orchestral conducting.

 

Graduated from the prestigious educational program known as El Sistema, Payare won the first prize in the Malko Competition in 2012. He is Chief Conductor of the Ulster Orchestra, in Northern Ireland since 2016, and Principal Conductor of the Castleton Festival in the United States, created and directed by his mentor, the legendary Lorin Maazel. He is also Honorary Conductor of the Sinfonietta Cracovia.

 

His artistic commitment has allowed him to lead the most important symphonic ensembles. Among his most remarkable performances are the ones he shared with the Vienna Philharmonic, the Munich Symphony, the Chicago Symphony at the Ravinia Festival, the London Symphony, the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, the Orchestra of the National Academy of Santa Cecilia, the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, The National Orchestra of Spain, the NHK Orchestra and the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela.

 

Rafael Payare has performed with prominent soloists including Magdalena Kozena, Alisa Weilerstein, Piotr Anderszewski, Alina Ibragimova, Jean-Yves Thibaudet, Nikolaj Znaider, Frank Peter Zimmermann and Elisabeth Leonskaja.
